World water day

The faculty of pharmacy at Libyan international medical university celebrated World Water Day on March 23th, 2022, corresponding to the International Day of Water, to raise awareness about the importance of water and how to protect drinkable water as a community outreach activity. Faculty students prepare awareness brochures and posters to explain water sources, rational use of water, and the problems related to water desertification and pollution which are presented to the audience during world water day and faculty scientific day. Not only did the faculty of Pharmacy participate in celebrating world water day inside the university campus with the participation of its students, but also carried out a project to collect donations for a water well in the village of Kara in the State of Niger with cooperating with the Charitable organization (kod beaydehim), Drilling the well after choosing the location of its site during the stages of drilling until its opening. The United Nations World Water Development Report indicates that there are approximately 3.6 billion people worldwide, or nearly half of the world’s population, living in areas experiencing water scarcity for at least one month annually, this number may increase to reach 5 billion in the year 2050 and current global use of fresh water is very large and is approaching the maximum. The idea of reviving World Water Day dates back to 1992 when it recommended the designation of an international day for freshwater during the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) held in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro. and for this, the United Nations General Assembly decided to designate March 22, 1993, as the first World Water Day.
